NOUVEAU THÉÂTRE DE MONTREUIL, FRANCE / 2021
We, the living is an audio fiction created with four amateur groups who worked together in radio broadcasting workshops between January and June 2021 in three cities in the outskirts of Paris: La Courneuve, Montreuil and Créteil. Together, we write and record a piece of fiction using a news story as a starting point: the closure of the SNEM factory in Montreuil, a dilapidated and polluting facility located thirty feet away from a school. We draw a dystopic story from this event: the economic collapse of a town after a factory closes and how it impacts the lives of residents around. This project is the brainchild of the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil, Making Waves, the La Porte à Côté nonprofit and the music collective La Boutique. It is funded by The Paris Region, the Ile-de-France Region DRAC (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs) as part of their “New Deal” scheme, and the Seine-Saint-Denis County as part of its Culture and Arts for Resilience scheme.
This program is scheduled to be broadcast in June 2021 and a live performance will be organized at the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil.
