LA COURNEUVE, FRANCE / 2020
Summer 2020, a Radiobox went around buildings, parks, apartments and the Cesária Évora Community Center in La Courneuve. After the workshops organized by the nonprofit La Porte à Côté, we set up a Radiobox for people from the neighborhood to gather around the microphone and talk about anything they want. Passed around from one person to the next, the radio has become a meeting place for friends, families and generations to share stories, have candid discussions and debates. We recorded many programs that went around, and by word-of-mouth it has become a place in the neighborhood to meet and talk that never existed before. Devised by Making Waves and La Porte à Côté, funded by the city of La Courneuve and the Seine Saint Denis county council, the project has enabled dozens of locals from the ‘Cité des 4000’ to make their own programs and take ownership of their radio station.
